You can add to those examples, my father. Ran himself to death, literally. We were surprised when they did emergency surgery for three stents, that was the beginning of the end!
I know about this but it's always crazy to hear more of these stories. We all seem to know these guys, but somehow the myth of fitness by hardship persists. I haven't broached this subject with my friend who I believe runs too much. Maybe when I put the book out...
I would not wait, the costs are too high! At least it will give him something to consider and there are many more, and healthier, ways to enter a flow state! My Dad could not outrun his poor eating habits, the long hours at the factory and the ongoing stress of it all.
Most of us need to relax, we are under a constant barrage of stressors and to think those are counteracted by adding more physical stress is counterproductive.
Well. My friend has a bit of a temper. He has a history of reacting badly 🙄 Did the next best thing. Told his girlfriend 😂
What you say a out most of us needing to relax is very true. I recommend to everyone taking a "pretend injury time off". I'm on one now and just chilling for a while (except for Radio Taiso).
Healthy and fit, are they the same thing? Not necessarily. There are some fundamental physical attributes you need to develop through physical activities in order to be healthy. The first choice we need to make regarding fitness is "fit for what?". You want to dance at your grandkids wedding, play a professional sport, or be a firefighter? Fit for the task? You might need more than just a brisk walk in the morning to be ready for some tasks. BUT you get to decide, (well most of the time. Sometimes life might toss you a curve, earthquake, tsunami...)
Great article, gotta keep it going everyday
I hope you mean minimal fitness effort not writing an article a day 😂
For a long time, my commute for one half of the year was a casual 20 minute cycling ride both ways, and for the other half a 20 minute train ride.
The difference in how fit I felt was huge. It was a much bigger factor that any deliberate could compensate for when I was doing my train commute.

Sorry for your loss. It's always sad, but always more sad when it's preventable by just chilling more.
I have a couple of friends, same deal, trained like they were body builders, but...guess what, stents, and follow up stents, one died on the table.
