I really like that closing statement, as I coach and teach in the 50+ community, I use variations of it often.

I have another variation which goes by the DSY acronym. The sanitized version is Don't Strain Yourself and the original word started with S also and rhymed with HIIT :D

Great article and educational. Because the marathon run originated with the Greeks, one imagines them as the ultimate hedonists, overly concerned with how their bodies looked.

Or maybe I've confused then with present day 🤔

A younger, slim friend of ours has just, an hour ago, delivered her first baby after 30 hours of labour. Now that's an example to me of a marathon struggle for life by a normally healthy, human individual.

Thanks Pawel...

The marathon was definitely "military" in nature. It was about getting the message from the battle of Marathon to Athens. And the runner - Philipides - died after delivering it, it's really a wonder that this sport took off.

Congrats to your friend on her marathons struggle!

I was just going to write the very same comment.

Excellent article.

Thank you for spending the time to examine the gym culture, it is very easy to fall for the modern fallacy that is widespread about exercise and extremes. I am fighting pre diabetes with none of the typical diet or lifestyle risk factors (sometimes genetics are a bit*h) and there is so much emphasis on hiit etc. I’m hoping that diet tweaks and sensible exercise routines will lower my HbA1C and delay my body turning against itself. I love your presentation style on YouTube, keep up the great work. Respect.
