My husband and I recently watched the Marylin Monroe movie “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes”. There’s a scene where almost naked athletic olympians exercise/dance around one of the characters to music. We commented on the difference between the modern hulking actors compared to the fit athletic build showcased in the movie. I read that body builders back then went for function verses size like they do today.
You are right, difference in physiques since then is shocking. Same thing happened to the Batman figurines :D Did you see how they changed since the sixties till now?
Lol. Yes. Thought I try to be measured in more responses. Some people can achieve fantastic muscle gains by genetic predisposition. The rest of them poison their bodies with steroids. Which is super sad.
And on the subject of strength. I do believe Bruce Lee, despite his size, pound for pound was the strongest man alive at the time.
Isometrics is not new, either. My parents had a book of isometric exercises for the whole body which was published sometime in the 1960s. You don't hear much about it now, but it certainly simplifies exercise. The example I have in mind is instead of doing a set of pushups, the same result can be had by holding that position for up to 15 seconds at a time (think of planking).
Good luck with your continuing journey. I enjoy all your videos and have incorporated some of your ideas into my daily fitness, most successful has been the slow jogging concept of not heel striking while moving, but landing on the whole foot, or balls of the feet. Until I tried that, I could not walk for more than 15 minutes without hip and knee pain. Now my walking is pain-free. :-)
Thank you for sharing this. I think I want to try those static pushups since pushups is where it's easy to hurt one's shoulders! Can you believe I haven't thought about it?
I'm glad you found that way of moving useful. I call it "tiger walk" and also found it tremendously helpful when I had my knee issues.

Fuck the meatheads. Not everyone wants to look like a monster. I just want more strength. Good post.

100% relate to this: “I’m not chasing any metrics, except my subjective feeling of being strong, capable, and flexible in my own body.”
